The American Courage is a 615-foot long, 68-foot wide, diesel-powered self-unloading lake freighter. It was built in 1979 at Bay Shipbuilding Company in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. The American Courage made its maiden voyage from Sturgeon Bay, WI in May of 1979.
In November 2023, the American Courage ran aground in the St. Clair River near Marine City, Michigan. The Coast Guard and Great Lakes Towing worked together to refloat the freighter around 7 PM on November 7, 2023.
